Hymer motorhome production gets underway
in new assembly hall
Bad Waldsee, 9. March 2007
February 21, 2007 was the red-letter day: the first motorhome, a brand new Hymermobil B 654 SL, left the new assembly hall in Bad Waldsee at 10.15 a.m. The production team together with Bernd Veser, the foreman, were delighted as this marked the successful start-up of motorhome production on line 34, hot on the heels of the start-up of the caravan production line 31 in January.
April will see a further production line going into operation, this time dedicated to Nova caravans, followed in the summer by line 33 and in the winter by line 32 - both for motorhomes. The new assembly hall covering an area of approximately 24,000 square metres doubles the production area at Hymer. Each single production line has 28 stations over a length of 280 metres. By comparison, their former counterparts were 75 metres long. The new assembly hall gives Hymer a maximum production capacity of 15,000 leisure vehicles per annum.
To ensure efficient capacity utilization, the logistics of all the other operations associated with manufacture have also been geared to permit an optimal production flow in state-of-the-art conditions.
The new high-bay racking has over 14,000 storage spaces for wire mesh boxes and is annexed to the assembly hall for direct supply of the materials required to the new production lines. The new foaming shop produces top-quality PUAL sandwich elements in individual sizes, using three, nine-metre-long, state-of-the-art downstroke moulding presses. A new paint shop also went into operation in January 2007, providing altogether 27 bays on an area of 1,700 square metres: albeit a modest figure set against the 27,500-square metre, covered and weather-proof area with over 900 parking spaces for completed caravans and motorhomes. With the comprehensively remodelled factory premises, Hymer possesses the most advanced production facility for leisure vehicles in Europe.
This development calls for celebrations and there is a special anniversary to be commemorated in 2007: Hymer will become 50 years old. To mark this occasion, Hymer offers its customers a host of attractive offers and events, which can be accessed at www.hymerwird50.de.
