Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, or so the saying goes. And so it was that the members of the jury beholding the Hymer Van gave the iF product design award 2006 in recognition of its beauty. In line with the motto “Design instead of Marketing”, the coveted iF label for outstanding design this year went to the new motorhome from the house of Hymer. The Hymer Van came out at the top of what the jury said was an illustrious and very international field of competitors.
Criteria for the award were design quality, workmanship, choice of materials, innovativeness, environmental friendliness, functionality, ergonomics, and visualisation of use, safety, brand value and branding.
Category 10 “Transportation”, in which the Hymer Van won the award, includes commercial vehicles, buses, motor cycles, sports cars, aircraft, rail vehicles, ships and boats, trailers, rims, tyres, accessories and “automotive design passenger cars”.
The international jury of 20 renowned design experts this year had the task of judging 1,952 products from 37 countries in an array of different categories. In the course of the 3-day session, the jury ultimately conferred awards on 689 products in 12 categories. These award-winners will be exhibited at the IC (Information Centre) area of the Hanover exhibition grounds from March to September 2006 to an anticipated audience of over 300,000 international visitors.
Since it made its debut in 1953, the iF design award has established itself as a leading hallmark of exemplary design. Companies and design studios use the iF label as an outward sign of design-oriented product quality. Over the almost 50-year history of the iF award, it has come to be regarded as bearing witness to an entrepreneurial drive for innovation and courage to face the international (design) competition.
On 9th March 2006, the first day of CeBIT, the worldwide leading computer and technology trade fair in Hanover, the jury will choose the best 50 of the awarded products, including the Hymer Van. These will then receive the iF gold award, the Oscar of design awards.
