The hallmark of a high-quality product is the perfect synthesis of form and function. Hymer’s close adherence to this principle is borne out by the fact that a Hymer caravan has again won the coveted red dot design award. The jury of international experts gave the award to the Hymer-Feeling at the 51st Product Design Competition in Essen, Germany, in recognition of its innovative and harmonious design.
The red dot product design award is conferred once a year in twelve different product categories. This year again saw over 2000 entries from 41 countries competing for the award. This shows what prestige is carried by the seal of quality as a sign first and foremost of the creativity of the designers and engineers involved in the product. Examples of the criteria applied for evaluating all the products are level of innovation, functionality, ergonomics and ecological compatibility.
The principal features of the Hymer-Feeling to which tribute was paid were its compact and convenient dimensions, the easily grasped operation of all the components, as well as the attractive exterior and interior design. The generously dimensioned pop-top creates a very pleasant living atmosphere. It is guaranteed to be stable and ingress-proof by virtue of the fact that it fits snugly on the patented PUAL construction elements. The specially lowered chassis ensures vehicle dynamics and safety – criteria which were just as important to the jury members as the timeless decor with subtly accentuated highlights.
For example, the furniture flaps are not straight but gently curved. The furniture fronts made of striped plexiglass are optionally lit from the rear, creating a cosy atmosphere and a special look. “Ideas of this kind set a company apart from the competition and are a means of promoting its market value,” says Professor Dr. Peter Zec, initiator of the red dot design award.
The “red dot” will be presented in a festive gala at the Aalto Theatre in Essen on 26 June 2006. In the afternoon the special exhibition “Design on stage – winners red dot award: product design 2006“ will be opened in the red dot design museum to ring in the celebrations. The prize-winning products, including the Hymer-Feeling, will be on show in this exhibition at the Zollverein Mine complex from 27 June to 23 July 2006.
