“You only have to believe in what you want, then you will succeed” – this motto of the famous Count Zeppelin also characterises the life of Erwin Hymer. In 1956, today’s “Mr. Hymermobil” followed in his father’s footsteps, returning from Dornier in Friedrichshafen to the farm trailer business in Bad Waldsee. Soon after, a landmark event occurs: the engineering expert Erich Bachem asks if he can build him a caravan. Erwin Hymer agrees, and the result is the 1957 prototype of the archetypal “Troll”! This is followed in 1961 by the first motorhome, the Caravano.
Today, a good 60 years later, the name HYMER has long been synonymous with premium motorhomes and caravans made in Germany, with the company enjoying the position of European market leader. Readers of the trade magazine “promobil” voted HYMER the top brand of the industry. once again in 2011. HYMER currently employs over 1,000 people at its headquarters in Bad Waldsee.
