Explore Responsibility – Our commitment to more sustainable travel

Climate change is reshaping our world, including the motorhome industry. Sustainability is not a passing trend. It is essential if future generations are to enjoy the freedom to travel.

To support our vision of a future-ready Group, we have developed a Group-wide sustainability strategy with clear areas for action, targets and measures. A double materiality assessment underpins the strategy, identifying where we can make a meaningful contribution.

Many initiatives are already under way. We carry out life cycle assessments, apply a sustainable product design framework and continue to develop programmes across Sustainable by Design, Net Zero and Supply Chain. We also recognise that achieving our ambitions will require further action. We are ready to move forward, learn and act responsibly.

It is time to act, and we are taking responsibility.

This commitment is also reflected in our corporate values:

  • We inspire genuine enthusiasm. Our passion for travel on the road drives us to create experiences that resonate today and remain valuable tomorrow.
  • We follow through. We pursue clear environmental and social goals in the way we think and act, and wherever possible throughout our value chain.
  • We create lasting value. We use resources responsibly and develop solutions designed to support the environment, people and lasting quality.
  • We succeed through collaboration. Together with our employees, customers and partners, we build transparent, fair and resilient relationships, creating solutions for more sustainable mobility

Explore Impact – Our sustainability priorities

Sustainable by Design

Sustainability starts with product design. That is why we consider materials, processes and product life cycles as a whole. Circular design is central to this approach, helping us create durable solutions designed to last.

Net Zero

On the road to Net Zero, we are reducing emissions across our own operations and value chain, while aligning our climate targets with the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). This ensures our actions are grounded in climate science and provides a transparent framework for emissions reduction.

Supply Chain

Responsibility extends throughout the supply chain. Fair working conditions, carefully selected materials and transparent processes form the foundation. Working with our partners, we improve transparency, reduce environmental impacts and promote social standards wherever we can make a difference.

Explore Tomorrow – Selected sustainability projects

    • Green energy: solar PV at our Bad Waldsee production site

As part of our expansion of renewable energy, a new 2.8 MW solar PV system was commissioned on our large carport structures in 2025. It generates around 2.8 million kWh of renewable electricity a year and plays a key role in increasing the share of power produced on site.

The project was delivered with Technische Werke Schussental (TWS). Around 70% of the electricity generated is used directly on site, while the remaining 30% supports renewable energy supply beyond Hymer. Hymer also uses 100% renewable electricity from hydropower* and invests in energy efficiency, including a site-wide switch to LED lighting that cuts annual consumption by around 340,000 kWh.

*The renewable origin is verified by Guarantees of Origin (GOs).

    • Premium reimagined: a lightweight, circular shower solution for the road

Made from recyclable polypropylene with integrated PIR recyclate, the new shower combines a lightweight design with more resource-efficient material use. PIR, or post-industrial recyclate, is recycled material recovered from manufacturing waste.

Using materials that can be recycled at the end of their service life supports a more circular approach to product design and, according to internal calculations, can reduce raw material use by around 30%. Compared with an equivalent conventional shower, its CO₂e footprint is approximately 23% lower*. The lightweight construction also saves more than 15 kg, which may help reduce fuel consumption depending on the vehicle configuration and how it is used. The result is a shower solution that combines resource-conscious materials with modern comfort on the road.

    • Life Cycle Assessment: the environmental impact of the ML-T CrossOver across its life cycle

Hymer has completed its first Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) for the Hymer ML-T CrossOver. The study evaluates key environmental impacts across the vehicle's life cycle and identifies the main hotspots. The use phase, especially diesel consumption, has the greatest impact, followed by raw material extraction and production. Prepared and verified in line with ISO standards, the analysis provides a robust foundation for future LCAs and valuable insights for improving the environmental performance of future models.

Hymer has also completed LCAs for a range of components, enabling the findings to be systematically incorporated into product development.

Explore Integrity – Sustainability in figures

Clearly defined metrics make our sustainability performance transparent and measurable.

We are working towards the following SBTi-aligned emissions reduction targets by 2030:

  • Scopes 1 and 2: -50% vs FY2019
  • Scope 3: -25% vs FY2022

The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is a global partnership that helps companies set science-based greenhouse gas reduction targets in line with the 1.5°C goal. Our targets follow the climate pathway of our parent company, THOR Industries, and include an SBTi-validated Net Zero target for 2050. Together, they provide the overarching framework for our sustainability strategy.

Alongside these targets, we track measurable progress across areas such as energy consumption, resource efficiency and waste reduction. Our metrics provide a transparent view of how we are improving step by step.

Explore sustainability – How to travel more sustainably with Hymer

    • Drive efficiently. Arrive feeling relaxed.

More responsible travel starts behind the wheel. Using less fuel helps reduce emissions, extends your range and can make every journey more relaxed. Smooth acceleration, gentle braking and looking well ahead all help minimise energy losses and avoid unnecessary stop-start driving.

Professional driver training can help you develop a calm, safe and confident driving style. Travelling lighter also means lower fuel consumption, better handling and a smoother drive. Before setting off, empty the waste-water tank, take only the fresh water you need and keep luggage to the essentials. An extra 100 kg can increase fuel consumption by as much as 0.3–0.5 litres per 100 km.

Where approved for the vehicle, HVO100 (hydrotreated vegetable oil) can offer a lower-emission alternative to fossil diesel. Look for the ‘XTL’ marking, usually inside the fuel filler flap. Across the fuel's life cycle, HVO100 can deliver substantial CO₂e savings compared with conventional diesel, as well as cleaner combustion and lower odour and particulate emissions.

    • Choose your pitch wisely. Explore more actively.

Where you stay can make a difference to the environmental impact of your trip. Campsites that use renewable energy, manage water efficiently and separate waste responsibly help conserve resources. Certifications such as the EU Ecolabel and ECOCAMPING provide useful guidance.

Once you arrive, leave your vehicle parked and explore the local area by bike, e-bike or public transport. You will experience your destination more closely, travel with fewer emissions and discover details you might otherwise miss from the driver's seat.

    • Use resources wisely. Enjoy greater independence on the road.

Using resources carefully can help you stay self-sufficient for longer. Every litre of water and every kilowatt-hour saved extends the time you can spend off-grid. Shorter showers and thoughtful use of electrical appliances can make a real difference.

Solar panels generate renewable power on board for lighting, the fridge and heating, reducing or even removing the need for an external supply. Combined with the Hymer Smart Battery System, that energy can be stored particularly efficiently, helping you stay independent of mains power for longer.

Thoughtful use of energy also matters on the road. Air conditioning and auxiliary heating can increase consumption significantly, so use them only when needed. At low speeds, open windows provide ventilation; at higher speeds, however, they increase drag and fuel consumption.

Using air conditioning and heating to suit the conditions can reduce energy use and help extend both range and self-sufficiency. That is what travelling with Hymer is all about: freedom without compromise.

    • Reduce waste. Travel more responsibly.

Responsible travel begins before you set off. Pack thoughtfully to reduce packaging waste from the start: choose reusable containers over single-use packaging and fabric bags over plastic ones. Less waste also means less weight and a tidier living space.

The same principle applies throughout your trip. Many campsites provide recycling facilities, while grey water must only be emptied at authorised disposal points, ideally using biodegradable sanitation products.

Another option is to avoid bottled drinking water altogether. Developed with Grünbeck, the Hymer clearliQ travel provides treated drinking water directly on board. The system filters 99.99% of bacteria, as confirmed by an independent laboratory, and removes suspended matter, particles and chlorine without chemical additives. The result is high-quality drinking water wherever you travel, fewer plastic bottles and greater independence on every trip.

    • Carry out regular checks. Travel with confidence.

Hymer vehicles are designed for a long service life, and regular care helps keep them performing at their best. Looking after your vehicle can reduce fuel consumption, extend its lifespan and support safe, confident driving.
Key checks include the engine oil, filters, tyre pressures and the vehicle's general mechanical condition.
Although modern engine electronics are largely maintenance-free, items such as engine oil and the engine air filter still play an important part in efficient operation.

Tyre pressure is one of the simplest and most effective checks you can carry out yourself. Correct pressures help reduce rolling resistance, prolong tyre life and support safe handling, while underinflated tyres can noticeably increase fuel consumption.
A quick check before setting off helps ensure a safe and reliable journey.
