Hymer is the pioneer of the modern pop top camper van. Our roof shells are constructed from durable GRP (Glass-Reinforced Plastic), with the Fiat models utilizing innovative LFI (Long-Fiber Injection) technology. This GRP construction ensures maximum robustness with minimal added weight. Thanks to specialized spoiler shaping, the roof offers excellent aerodynamics and reduced wind noise. Unlike a fixed high roof, it has a negligible impact on fuel consumption and CO2 emissions.
At Hymer, safety is never an option—it’s the standard. Because a roof load raises the vehicle's centre of gravity, every model undergoes precise centre-of-gravity testing at our in-house EHG Test Centre. This results in an individually reprogrammed high-load ESP, specifically tuned to the driving dynamics of a van with a pop-top roof.
A Hymer pop-top roof defies the elements. The tent fabric is rated for a 300 mm water column and features various openings for maximum ventilation. (On Fiat models, the fabric can even be completely opened or removed for a "panoramic" feel). With the optional roof insulation and our exclusive 12V heated mattress topper, your roof becomes fully winter-ready.
For those seeking total independence, Hymer offers optional solar modules (2x95 W for Mercedes, 2x85 W for Fiat). By using flexible, lightweight modules (only 6–8 kg), the roof's opening kinematics and gas pressure dampers remain perfectly balanced—even when retrofitted later. Please note that roof racks are omitted on these models to ensure functional safety and adhere to specific roof load limits.
