Many people dream of escaping to the warm south in the winter months. But some camping enthusiasts are convinced of the opposite: if it's winter, then right! Discover our suggestions here for everyone who wants to immerse themselves in the winter wonderland of Scandinavia - and get inspiration for your own travel plans!
The North Cape is the northernmost point in Europe (accessible by road from the mainland) - and of course an absolute must for Scandinavia fans. The months of July and August are considered the best time to travel. But can you also attempt this trip under the extreme conditions of the polar winter? But yes! The requirements: a winter-proof motorhome, snow chains, good preparation (see our tips for winter camping in a motorhome) - and the joy of experiencing the very special magic of the Scandinavian winter.
One possible route to the goal: the route via Sweden and Finland to northern Norway. But you should take your time on this path. Because it is paved with invitations to winter outdoor adventures. Here are just a few suggestions among many, many:
Winter paddling on Lake Vättern, watching reindeer in Malå, hiking through the Storforsen National Park to the largest rapids in Scandinavia, snowshoeing in Harads, going on a husky sleigh ride to Kiruna or - already in the Norwegian part of Lapland - going on a big snow scooter safari near Karasjok...
The undisputed highlight of this trip, however, is the visit to the North Cape itself. The towns of Honningsvåg or Skarsvåg are suitable as base camps. Important: In winter, the last kilometers of the Northern Cape Road can only be traveled in a convoy.
To do this, you meet near Skarsvåg at set times, a snow plow drives ahead - and then you just have to make sure you don't lose sight of the vehicle in front or even stop! But the reward at the end of the route is worth the adventure.
In contrast to summer, there is a great chance to enjoy the view from the plateau of the mystical expanse of the Nordic Sea almost all alone in the middle of the polar night...

If you prefer the Norwegian coast instead of a ski resort, you could get your money's worth in the Ryfylke region (north of Stavanger). After an extensive snowshoe hike through the picturesque, rugged fjord landscape, going to the sauna is actually obligatory.

Modern art, on the other hand, has its home less in the center of the city than in front of its doors. The legendary Louisiana Museum of Modern Art is beautifully nestled in the coastal landscape, about 40 minutes' drive north of Copenhagen in Humlebæk. Also worth a trip to the surrounding area: the Arken Museum in Ishøj. An entire room here is dedicated to the works of the British artist Damien Hirst.
With so many discoveries, physical well-being should of course not be neglected. The Copenhagen street food culture offers delicious refreshments for in between meals, e.g. B. in Torvehallerne (nørreport metro station) or in the Tivoli Food Hall. Also recommended: have an aperitif in one of the bars on Ravnsborggade - to explore the diverse world of Danish craft beers. And if you then want to immerse yourself in Copenhagen's modern restaurant and nightlife scene, then an evening tour of the former slaughterhouse district of Kødbyen is an absolute must.
